The wrestling world was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Nikolai Volkoff (Josip Peruzović) and Brian Christopher (Brian Lawler) on Sunday. WWE paid tribute with “in memory of” title cards before the start of Monday Night Raw, also uploading videos featuring both men on their YouTube channel.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported the deaths – including that of Brickhouse Brown – on Jul 29.
WWE uploaded a video featuring the highlights of one of Brian Christopher‘s biggest achievements, capturing the WWF World Tag Team Championships with Scotty 2 Hotty. A video was also uploaded summarizing Volkoff’s career. This journeyed his path to the WWF, the rivalries with Hulk Hogan and Bruno Sammartino, his iconic tag team with Iron Sheik and ‘Classy Freddie Blassie’, his eventual face turn with ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan and Sgt. Slaughter, and snippets of his 2005 WWE Hall of Fame induction.
WrestleTalk would like to extend its condolences to the friends and families.
