Following the announcement of his departure, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler believes his WWE career has ended.
On Monday, May 6, PWInsider reported that WWE was not renewing the commentary contract for Jerry “The King” Lawler.
Lawler came into the company in 1992 where he started his announcing career while still wrestling. He went on to become the lead color commentator on Monday Night Raw alongside Jim Ross during the Monday Night Wars.
In a new interview with PWInsider, Jerry Lawler addressed WWE’s decision to not renew his broadcasting contract. He said:
“One other thing that a lot of people wonder about, my career has probably ended with the WWE and that’s it’s just one of those things that goes with my getting over with all the stuff that happened with the stroke and it was my, my just sitting behind a desk and doing it commentating on a match again was the extremely difficult,”
Lawler hasn’t been part of the WWE broadcasting team since 2020.
“The King” still has a WWE legends contract that is still active with the company at the time of this writing.
WrestleTalk will provide any further updates on Jerry Lawler’s WWE status when they become available.
