WWE Star Given Permission To Use The Canadian Destroyer

A WWE Superstar has been given permission to use the Canadian Destroyer in their matches from the move’s originator.

Petey Williams is widely accepted as the “creator” of the Canadian Destroyer, or the Flip Piledriver. Williams used this finisher during his time at TNA, and the move is now a staple of modern-day wrestling.

Chelsea Green has been given the nod to use the iconic move by its inventor. Green spoke with Love Wrestling about her opinion of the move, noting she wants it to be used a lot less in modern wrestling.

Hoping the move becomes unique again, Green theorised that the Flip Piledriver is the flavour of the month. She reminded the world that no matter the popularity of the move, she’s the only person with official endorsement to use the manoeuvre.

Here is the full quote, courtesy of Wrestle Zone:

“I have debated tweeting that, because I remember on the podcast that was like a big moment for me! Like ‘did he just like really give it to me?’ I mean it’s kind of unfortunate that this move that was so cool and that I almost won All In with, is now just kind of a like thing, just kind of another move. Hopefully that goes away. Wrestling happens like that. It happens in waves. And so, maybe we’ll ride this Canadian Destroyer wave and then everybody will get off it and it will become unique again. Who knows? But I mean, everyone, just remember that I’m the only person who’s allowed, okay?”

From Adam Cole to Pentagon, many current wrestlers have the Flip Piledriver somewhere in their move-set. Many fans think the wrestling world is desensitised to the move, similar to how the majority don’t flinch twice at a DDT, which used to be Jake Roberts’ finishing move.

Chelsea Green debuted on Smackdown in November last year, but was unfortunately injured during her first main roster match. With Green now preparing for her in ring return, it’ll be interesting to see if she uses this controversial move on WWE TV.
