WWE Star Shoots On Cruiserweight Booking

A current WWE star has spoken about the company’s booking of the cruiserweight division that he had been a part of for a number of years.

Cedric Alexander was one of the top names on the 205 Live brand, even winning the Cruiserweight Championship on the WrestleMania 34 pre-show.

Unfortunately, the pre-show is where the cruiserweights found themselves most of the time, which led to a lot of criticism from fans.

Speaking with talkSPORT, Alexander said:

“Yes, sometimes that’s a thing [not having plans for cruiserweights]. It goes back to the perception ‘oh, you’re a cruiserweight. You’re not that big so you won’t do that well.’ That’s a perception a lot of people have when in actuality, I’m currently about 210lbs. I’m just as big as a good portion of the guys on the roster – not the giants obviously! – but I’m not a small man. A 210lb man is not a small individual. You gotta understand that just because you’re in that weight range doesn’t mean you can’t hurt somebody pretty bad. Jon Jones has been 205lbs! He’s a monster! For me, your weight means nothing, but it’s a perception people have that means you can’t do it. Look at Rey Mysterio. He’s way under 200lbs and he’s one of the greatest of all-time. It’s just a perception we need to relax and say if you’re great, you’re great. Daniel Bryan is a prime example that size means nothing.”

While 205 Live does still air on the WWE Network every Friday, the cruiserweight division is now under the NXT umbrella, and is often presented prominently on NXT TV every week.

The Cruiserweight Title is currently held by Santos Escobar – the leader of the Legado del Fantasma faction – who looks set to defend next against Isaiah Scott.
