WWE SummerSlam & NXT TakeOver Star Ratings Revealed

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has given his star ratings for the SummerSlam and NXT TakeOver: XXX events that took place last weekend in Florida.

Dave Meltzer gave the following ratings to the matches that took place on the SummerSlam card, with the WWE Championship match between Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton getting the highest rating for the night:

  • Apollo Crews def. MVP – United States Championship (**1/4)
  • Bayley def. Asuka – SmackDown Women’s Championship (***1/4)
  • Street Profits def. Angel Garza & Andrade – Raw Tag Team Championship (**)
  • Mandy Rose def. Sonya Deville (**3/4)
  • Seth Rollins def. Dominik Mysterio (***3/4)
  • Asuka def. Sasha Banks – Raw Women’s Championship (***3/4)
  • Drew McIntyre def. Randy Orton – WWE Championship (****1/4)
  • The Fiend def. Braun Strowman – Universal Championship (*)

Dominik Mysterio had a ***3/4 star match with Seth Rollins in his first ever match, and former NFL star Pat McAfee debut match with former NXT Champion Adam Cole was interestingly given the same rating by Meltzer.

Below are the ratings for the NXT TakeOver show that took place the night before SummerSlam, with one match earning just 1/2* off the illustrious five-star mark.

  • Finn Balor def. Timothy Thatcher (****)
  • Damian Priest def. Velveteen Dream, Johnny Gargano, Bronson Reed & Cameron Grimes – North American Championship (****1/2)
  • Adam Cle def. Pat McAfee (***3/4)
  • Io Shirai def. Dakota Kai – NXT Women’s Championship (***3/4)
  • Karrion Kross def. Keith Lee – NXT Championship (**)
