The United Kingdom has been waiting a long time to get another WWE pay per view. Now it seems WWE had some unique plans for a UK-based pay per view in 2020. Of course, the pandemic got in the way of that as well.
Inside The Ropes is reporting that WWE had planned for Drew McIntyre to defend the WWE Championship at the event. Against whom, you ask? None other than boxer Tyson Fury. The two had traded barbs on Twitter for months but nothing ever came of it. Now, we know why.
Fury had one match in WWE last year against Braun Strowman. Fury was able to win the match by countout, although the match itself was panned by critics and fans alike. He went on to have another boxing match with Deonte Wilder on February 22 where he won by TKO.
No details have been given by WWE about a potential UK-based pay per view. While the time difference between the UK and North America often stood in the way of things, WWE’s recent shows in Saudi Arabia and Australia have shown that if they want to they can make the time difference work.
