On Monday, WWE announced that they will return to Shanghai, China for live events.
The Raw brand will head to the Mercedez Benz Arena on September 1st. This will be the third consecutive year that WWE has gone to Shanghai, but this time they are bringing a mega-crossover star with them in Ronda Rousey.
It is worth noting that Ronda’s debut in China follows SummerSlam, where she is likely to face Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women’s Championship.
If @RondaRousey can ride out the rest of her suspension, her light at the end of the tunnel is a #RAW #WomensChampionship match against @AlexaBliss_WWE at #SummerSlam! https://t.co/y9g29ZtC56 pic.twitter.com/PCKVdstf5G

This begs the question: will Ronda debut in China as champion? If so, it would certainly lend her the feeling of a well-traveled, ‘true world champion,’ as the saying goes.
Ronda, of course, will not be alone when she lands in Shanghai. Also advertised for WWE Live are: Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Braun Strowman, Nia Jax, Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss, Finn Bálor, Jinder Mahal, Matt Hardy, and Bray Wyatt.
From WWE.com:
“We are excited to return to Shanghai, demonstrating WWE’s commitment to our passionate and growing fan base in China,” said Jay Li, Vice President & General Manager, WWE Greater China. “Fans can look forward to seeing an action-packed night of family-friendly entertainment that will create lifelong memories.”
Post-SummerSlam could very well be a new chapter in the Raw Women’s division. Who would you like to see represent the brand? Can WWE do more in China? Let us know in the comments, or send us a tweet. And remember, you’re always welcome to talk wrestling with us on Discord!
