WWE’s Women’s Division Struggling Without Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey has not been seen since WrestleMania 35, where she was defeated by Becky Lynch in a history-making main event that also featured Charlotte Flair.

Shortly after the pay-per-view, the former Raw Women’s Champion revealed that she feels as if she will only be fully appreciated once she has passed away.

However, it appears as if that isn’t the case. Dave Meltzer recently discussed on the Wrestling Observer Radio how WWE is now really struggling without the star power of UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey.

Dave Meltzer noted that while it could have been argued last year that the star of the women’s roster was Becky Lynch, “The Man’s” lacklustre feud with Lacey Evans has proved that Rousey was the real figurehead of the division:

“I mean it’s like anyone who thought that Becky Lynch was the most valuable woman in that company, there is no way now. I mean, you could argue it before, but there is no way. It’s so clear that this thing was carried by Ronda and Ronda’s name because if Becky Lynch didn’t work with Ronda… I mean, granted she worked with Lacey Evans, that’s a big drop.”

Rousey’s absence can be seen to have not only affected house show attendance, but also television ratings and WWE Network subscriptions, all three of which are not looking as good as last year when Rousey was with the company.

However, Natalya has recently stated that Rousey “definitely wants to come back to WWE”, so perhaps the women’s division could see a new lease of life if Ronda does in fact make her way back to Vince McMahon’s company.
