According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio, there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for why Sanity and the Authors of Pain have been MIA on the main roster since their NXT call-ups: they were supposed to be part of a planned first-ever tag team Money in the Bank ladder match at this Sunday’s pay-per-view that has since been cancelled.
According to Alvarez, promos were shot for the match with tag wrestlers talking about Money in the Bank but WWE held off on announcing the match because it was six weeks until the pay-per-view and they did not want to give everything away at once.
As tends to happen with WWE, time passed and plans changed, with the tag MITB ladder bout getting scrapped somewhere along the way. That meant the delayed debut of Sanity – who were scheduled to be involved – and the push of AOP were both halted until after the supercard.
It is expected that both teams will be figured back into the mix once Sunday’s event is out of the way.
