The ever-growing relationship between WWE and Gabe Sapolsky’s EVOLVE took another major turn at last night’s EVOLVE 114 pay-per-view when three NXT wrestlers left the show carrying EVOLVE titles.
Lower card NXT wrestlers were all over the show. After Jessie Elaban had lost to Priscilla Kelly and Adrian Jaoude toppled Joe Gacy, tag team The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) captured the EVOLVE tag belts, beating Chris Dickinson and Jaka.
That was surprising enough but then in the semi-final Fabian Aichner downed Shane Strickland to win the EVOLVE title.
These surprise results come off the back of last week’s news that all matches in the company featuring WWE/NXT wrestlers would air on their streaming service, when previously WWE appearances had been restricted to dark matches.
It is a similar deal to the ones PROGRESS and ICW have had with WWE for the past two years, with the two promotions amongst the few allowed to use WWE talent on their broadcasts.
EVOLVE is expected to be one of the promotions featured on the highest price bracket following WWE’s proposed new Network tier changes.
The Street Profits and Aichner have been advertised for EVOLVE shows throughout the rest of the year, with Mustafa Ali also confirmed for EVOLVE 115 and 116, and Kassius Ohno on EVOLVE 117 and 118.
