WWE will return to Saudi Arabia on Friday, May 3, 2019, in what will be the third WWE show since signing a 10-year agreement as part of Saudi’s social and economic reform plan ‘Saudi Vision 2030’, as first reported by Fightful.
WWE hosted two shows in Saudi Arabia in 2018. The first was the Greatest Royal Rumble event, which took place in April of last year at the King Abdullah International Stadium in Jeddah.
The second took place in November, and was even more controversial than the first. Named Crown Jewel, the show was subject to major pressure from both politicians and fans alike, as it was taking place just after the Saudi government was accused of assassinating Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
The event still went ahead though, but references to its location were removed and even more recently Braun Strowman referred to it as “WWE World Cup” as opposed to Crown Jewel in a recent promo on Raw.
There are no further details at this stage as to what the event will be named, but we do know it is scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2019.
