Lars Sullivan’s knee injury that has kept him off television recently is far worse than first feared.
Sullivan was injured in his handicap match victory over the Lucha House Party last week on Raw, causing a planned SmackDown match against Matt Hardy the next night to be pulled.
It was initially thought that the injury was not overly serious but now Dave Meltzer is reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE expects him to be on the shelf for six to nine months.
This is obviously a huge blow for Sullivan, who was in the mist of a Brock Lesnar circa 2002 monster push and was seemingly being primed for a run against Roman Reigns later in the year.
Sullivan has had a difficult start to life on the WWE main roster.
He was called up in January but went AWOL from Raw due to anxiety issues which caused a planned angle with John Cena and subsequent WrestleMania match to be cancelled.
Sullivan eventually debuted the night after WrestleMania with an attack on the retired Kurt Angle but became the subject of controversy when unsavoury message boards comments he had made years earlier resurfaced, leading to WWE fining him $100,000.
Given the nature of the injury it looks likely that Sullivan will not be seen on WWE programming again until around Royal Rumble time.
