Last week’s Raw was the first under the ‘Paul Heyman Era’ after his appointment as Executive Director of Raw. It was reported that Heyman and Vince McMahon worked on the show together.
It has since emerged that many of the key segments, including the main roster call-up of the Street Profits and the stage explosion angle at the start of the show between Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley allegedly come from man behind ECW.
While still portrayed as an upper midcarder and main eventer, the once incredibly over Braun Strowman has not been used to his full potential in WWE thus far.
At WrestleMania 34, Strowman won the Raw Tag Team Championships with Nicholas, a ten-year-old boy. The following year, he was involved in a throw-away feud with Michael Che and Colin Jost of Saturday Night Live.
Tom Colohue has since reported that Raw’s new boss wants to give the aforementioned Strowman a “monster push” and aims to have him perceived as a legitimate threat once again:
“The idea is to get Strowman back to his roots as a monster, just destroying everything in his path. He hasn’t been used as effectively as he could be.”
Colohue’s report reminds readers that while Heyman appreciates smaller technical wrestlers, he will always be a fan of powerhouses like the ‘Monster Among Men’:
“Heyman’s still the same guy who brought you ECW. He likes the technical style but he also likes big, destructive forces of nature. Braun is perfect for that.”
Tom Colohue doesn’t have the best record of backstage scoops, so take this report with a pinch of salt.
However, with the way the company has treated Bobby Lashley and Braun Strowman since Paul Heyman came into power, it does not seem unlikely that a push could be in the big man’s future.
