It was never going to last, was it? When WWE Chairman Vince McMahon introduced the wildcard rules to Raw and SmackDown, the initial rules were that only four people from one brand could appear on the other.
Since then, you would have been forgiven for thinking no-one in WWE knows how to count, because there have been very few weeks that this four person rule has been adhered to.
According to a report from SportsKeeda’s Tom Colohue, WWE is now going to start slowly wrapping up the idea as very few people backstage still think it’s a good idea.
“They’re quietly wrapping up the wild card rule. No big announcement or anything. There’s a lot of people who want it to end. Companies, sponsors, management and talent. You don’t get another Lynch and Rousey moment without that Survivor Series format.”
This report would make sense, as initially every star who appeared on the wrong brand had to talk about wildcards, but now it’s barely mentioned if at all.
They may just come up with another name for it, but it’s more likely that we’ll once again just head to the end of the brand split when no other options are viable.
