Last night on Raw, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships from The IIconics. The duo were victorious in a four-way elimination match also featuring Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville and The Kabuki Warriors.
It had been reported last week that the match was actually supposed to take place in Toronto, Canada at the SummerSlam pay-per-view this weekend. However, plans changed and the match was moved to the go-home Raw.
Dave Meltzer is reporting on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that the reason for the change was because WWE wanted to give the match more time, and it would have been cut-short on what is looking like a long SummerSlam pay-per-view.
“For whatever reason I guess they decided to move it off the pay-per-view, I guess to give it more time and put it on TV. So I don’t know if we’re done to thirteen matches on the pay-per-view, but it’s probably a good thing to take one match off the pay-per-view anyway.”
It is expected that SummerSlam will run for six or seven hours, with WWE confirming last night that the kickoff show has doubled in length. Be prepared for another SEVEN hour pay-per-view like WrestleMania 35 in April.
