Riho will defend her AEW Women’s Championship against Kris Statlander on the January 1, 2020 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Statlander defeated Britt Baker to earn the title shot. She has recently shot up to the top of the AEW women’s rankings by beating Hikaru Shida and now Baker. This will be Riho’s first title defence since defeating Emi Sakura at Full Gear.
Statlander faced adversity in the form of Brandi Rhodes after her win over Baker. She declined the invitation to join the Nightmare Collective and Brandi responded by hitting her with the point of her high heel. It will be interesting to see if Brandi will interfere in the title match on January 1.
The other segment that has been announced for the New Year edition of AEW Dynamite is Jon Moxley’s decision on whether to join the Inner Circle. Chris Jericho made the offer to Moxley on December 11 and doubled down by promising something special for Mox on January 1 should he say yes. Moxley is currently the number one ranked contender for Jericho’s AEW World Championship so his recruitment to the stable would have serious implications regarding Jericho’s next title defence.
