Despite signing a contract with WWE earlier this year, Rob Gronkowski is coming out of retirement to rejoin the NFL. The tight end had spent his career with the New England Patriots until his retirement in 2018.
It was announced today that the Patriots were trading Gronkowski and a seventh-round pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a fourth-round pick. Gronk will now rejoin his quarterback Tom Brady in Tampa.
Gronkowski was a host of WrestleMania this year alongside his friend Mojo Rawley. During the show, he managed to pin Rawley to become the 24/7 Champion. He currently still holds the title despite not appearing on WWE programming since.
Gronk is considered by many as perhaps the best tight end in the history of football. He walked away from the game at a young age due to multiple injuries suffered throughout his career but at just 30 years old he will take to the field once again.
It remains to be seen what this news will mean for his WWE career. Considering he had no pro wrestling experience, it would likely have been a while before he would have been able to be a full-time member of the WWE roster.
