On last night’s episode of AEW: Dynamite, you’ll have noticed that Shawn Spears defeated Baron Black with a new finisher, and a very famous one at that.
Up until now, Spears has been using the C4 as a finisher, so fans were curious to see him use a Sharpshooter to finish Black off.
Responding to comments regarding his new finisher, Spears took to Twitter to explain that he had in fact texted Bret Hart to ask if he could use the move, and Bret was fully supportive.
For those commenting:
A while back, I sent a text to @BretHart asking a question.
He told me: “Go for it, it works”
Tonight as @IAmJericho mentioned, I paid tribute to a Canadian ICON by winning via the #Sharpshooter
It just makes sense. Mine now.#LoveYouBret @AEWrestling

There is often a debate in wrestling as to whether someone can really pass down a move, especially as thousands of wrestlers all over the planet use the same moves. However, it is generally seen as a great sign of respect to ask someone, particularly if they were the person to make that move famous.
Bret Hart’s Sharpshooter is arguably the most famous submission finisher of all time alongside Ric Flair’s Figure Four Leg Lock and Carmella’s Code of Silence (one of those is a lie), so you can see why Spears thought it suitable to ask Hart for permission.
