During the very personal build to Edge and Randy Orton’s match at WrestleMania 36, many people speculated that WWE would have Edge’s long-time friend Christian involved in the feud in some capacity, especially considering his history with Orton.
However, WWE opted not to have Christian involved, likely because he isn’t able to get physical or take any bumps. Instead, Orton hit Edge’s wife Beth Phoenix with an RKO in an awesome segment that ended Raw during the build to WrestleMania.
Well, it seems like WWE is planning on including Christian in the build to the “Greatest Match Ever” that is set to take place between Orton and Edge at Backlash. WWE has announced that Christian will be on Raw this week.
It was announced last night on WWE Backstage that Christian will be hosting a special Peep Show segment on the 06/08 show in which his former tag team partner Edge will be a special guest. Unless, for some reason, both Edge and Orton appear on SmackDown later that week, this will be the go-home angle before their match at Backlash.
WWE has really tried to bolster this feud with some big names, with two-time WWE Hall of Famers Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels both appearing in taped segments on Raw to talk about the match at Backlash and give their predictions.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. While an Edge vs. Orton match will probably be fairly decent, giving it the lofty expectations of the “greatest wrestling match ever” will likely mean it fails to deliver. Let’s also not forget that this will be Edge’s first singles match in over nine years.
