Edge has once again addressed criticism of his Last Man Standing match against Randy Orton from this past April’s WrestleMania 36 event.
One of the main gripes people had with the match was its length, with the brawl ending up being nearly 40 minutes, by far the longest bout across both nights.
Speaking on the Cheap Heat podcast, Edge said:
“Sometimes I just consider the source, and if I can have my peers enjoy it then I feel like ‘okay’. You know, because they’ve been in there and they’ve done it, so they know the thought process of how it feels to be in there. And a lot of what Randy and I had to do on that day was on the fly because a lot of our plans involved going outside and going on the roof of the Performance Center and all of these things. Well by the time we filmed it, it was still daylight. When it’s going to air, it’s not [daylight]. ‘Okay crap, we gotta wing it’. So what you saw was two guys without, saying a word to each other, winging 41 minutes or whatever of a fight. Everything could have been heard so we just had to go. What you got was two guys just going in and fighting. And when people say, ‘well it was just a fight’, well yeah, think of the story, it’s supposed to be a fight. This guy dropped my wife with an RKO.”
Edge also pointed out how, after returning from triple fusion neck surgery, he still came back and had two 40-minute matches, while people are also complaining about the likes of Goldberg and Brock Lesnar only having short ones.
The Canadian suffered torn triceps during taping for the Backlash match, so will be out of action for a number of months.
