It has been over a year since WWE held a King of the Ring tournament. In September 2019, Baron Corbin was crowned King and has paraded around with a crown ever since. Now, a surprising WWE star wants to be the next King.
During WWE’s The Bump, Xavier Woods revealed his ambitions to be King. His reasoning was the New Day could be the three kings of WWE. Here is the quote, courtesy of Fightful:
“This is the thing. The rules of wrestling are always evolving. They are forever changing. We’re not sure when King Of The Ring is returning. We’re not sure if it’s ever going to happen. But as my good friend Kofi Kingston has instilled to me, he said, ‘Keep your blade sharp because you’re not sure when you’re ever going to go into battle.’ So I am making it known throughout every form possible that I want to be King Of The Ring.
Do you know why? For such a long time, I put out into the Universe that New Day would be tag team champions and we did. For the longest time, I put out that Kofi Kingston would be WWE Champion and he did. So what happens now? I said I was going to be King Of The Ring and before I am done with this company, if a tournament arises, I will become King Of The Ring, thus making [New Day] the three kings.”
WWE does not hold their King of the Ring tournaments regularly. Since the end of the tournament’s pay per view, there have only been five tournaments held.
