Since Sunday night, wrestling fans from around the world have had the song “Ruby Soho” by Rancid stuck in their heads.
Ruby Soho, who WWE fans will know as Ruby Riott, debuted as the joker in the Women’s Casino Battle Royale at All Out, winning the match to earn a shot at AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that it was in fact Karl Frederiksen of Rancid who initially reached out to Ruby after she was released by WWE in June.
It turns out that Frederiksen is a huge wrestling fan, and suggested to Ruby that she used the name Ruby Soho so she could have the song as her entrance theme in AEW.
Meltzer added that Ruby was “thrilled to death” that Frederiksen had reached out to her.
It was noted during the same episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that AEW tried to get the rights for The Final Countdown by Europe for Bryan Danielson’s entrance theme, but the cost was too high.
