Chris Jericho has revealed he wanted to disband the Inner Circle faction he leads in AEW, but Tony Khan decided against it.
After Jericho’s program with MJF and over the past couple of weeks, the Inner Circle members – Jericho himself, Jake Hager, Santana, Ortiz and Sammy Guevara – have kind of split off and have been doing their own things.
Jericho and Hager confronted Dan Lambert and the Men of the Year, Santana and Ortiz saved the Lucha Brothers from the Hardy Family Office, and Guevara has been hanging out with Fuego Del Sol.
Jericho’s idea was actually to split the group completely, but instead, Khan decided they don’t necessarily have to break up, even if they’re going to branch off and do their own things a little bit more.
Speaking with Stephanie Chase, Chris Jericho said:
“My idea was for us to respectfully disband and go on our own ways. Tony (Khan) didn’t want to do that. He said, ‘Why would you want to disband? You don’t have to be together all the time, but you’re still the Inner Circle’.
“It’s good for us to go our own ways and not be in each other’s business every week. It’s good that we’re still aligned. For me, I thought it was a good time for us to go our own way, but we can still do that without officially disbanding the band or breaking up the band.”
Jericho and Hager team up against the Men of the Year on this coming Friday’s Rampage ‘Grand Slam’, in a match that was taped last night.
