Those of you who watched SmackDown this past Friday night may have noticed that Edge caused a bit of a stir by subtly namedropping two current AEW stars during the show.
During the segment in which Seth Rollins broke into Edge’s house (it’s wrestling so it’s legal), Edge called his wife Beth Phoenix to tell her to go to her brother’s house, and that “Daniel and David” would be there soon.
For those who didn’t catch the AEW reference, Daniel and David are the real life first names of AEW stars Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, who happen to be former WWE stars, and two of Edge’s closest friends.
If you watched Edge’s documentary on his road to recovery, you’ll have seen Cash, then known as Dash Wilder, training with him at his home in Asheville, North Carolina.
According to a report from Ringside News, Vince McMahon wasn’t even slightly bothered by the AEW reference, and no-one in the back took it the wrong way.
The report stated: “No-one backstage cared. Not Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard, John Laurinaitis or Kevin Dunn.”
Perhaps Vince just didn’t know they had real names outside of wrestling.
