While New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) did everything it could to run shows during the COVID-19 pandemic, the promotion’s shows have lacked atmosphere, as fans were banned from cheering in the hope it would decrease the risk of the virus spreading.
Thankfully, it seems the days of not being able to cheer at NJPW shows are soon to be a thing of the past, as it was announced yesterday (July 7) at a NJPW Business Strategy Presentation that fans will be able to cheer at shows starting in September 2022.
Fans will be able to cheer at two shows at Korakuen Hall on September 5 and 6, but it seems it won’t be every fan that will be allowed to do so.
The shows will be held at half capacity, meaning only 1,000 people will be able to watch the show, and the shows will have dedicated cheering sections, so if you aren’t in one of those, you’ll only be able to clap.
For anyone planning to attend the G1 Climax this year, this announcement appears to confirm fans will not be able to cheer, as the G1 will run from July to August.
Current IWGP United States Champion Will Ospreay has been vocal with his annoyance regarding the no cheering rule, but at least appears to be happy at the prospect of fans being able to cheer again soon.
Well at least I get to hear people soon
