Released WWE Star Recalls Triple H & Vince McMahon Backstage Power Struggle WWE

Former WWE star Cameron Grimes has explained how a power struggle within WWE affected his run with the company.

Cameron Grimes was one of a number of stars who competed on both the Black & Gold and 2.0 versions of NXT, with Grimes notably holding the North American Title for 63 days in early 2022.

He was called up to the main roster in May 2023, joining SmackDown after the WWE Draft, ahead of Endeavor acquiring WWE that September, and Vince McMahon resigning for a second time in January 2024.

Grimes is no longer with WWE, with Grimes announcing that he had been released on April 23.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Grimes indicated that a power struggle between Triple H and Vince McMahon was happening when he was brought up to the main roster.

Grimes said:

“What happened was, as soon as I got brought up there, was the struggle between the two. Hunter wasn’t really in charge yet. Vince was still kinda in charge.

“There was still that battle going on between them. You were either a Hunter guy or a Vince guy. At the time, Vince was still in charge, being a Hunter guy didn’t really help you that much, during that period.”

Former WWE star Jinder Mahal was one of the other stars released during WWE’s recent talent cuts.

The backstage reaction to Jinder Mahal and other WWE stars getting released has been revealed, which you can read more about right here.
