An update has emerged on Friday’s (September 30) SmackDown taping, following company concerns due to Hurricane Ian.
The hurricane has left over 2 million people in Florida without power. Many WWE stars reside in Florida with the Performance Center located in Orlando.
Following reports that the situation had WWE worried about plans for this week’s SmackDown taping in Winnipeg, Canada, Dave Meltzer has reported that some talent booked for the show will not be able to travel to the taping, indicating that the show won’t go ahead as originally planned.
Meltzer noted the following in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:
“WWE was also concerned over the Florida talent and their ability to get to Smackdown on 9/30 in Winnipeg and for the weekend house shows in Bismarck, ND, and Regina and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. At least some booked talent living in the Orlando area won’t be able to make the shows.”
Prior to the September 28 AEW Dynamite, Rampage and Dark: Elevation taping, AEW President Tony Khan publicly stated that attending taping was optional for talent. The changes that were made to plans for this week’s edition of Dynamite due to the hurricane have now been revealed.
As of writing, the announced card for SmackDown is as follows:
- Bayley vs. Shotzi
- Hit Row (Top Dolla & Ashante ‘Thee’ Adonis) vs. Los Lotharios (Humberto & Angel)
- Ricochet & Madcap Moss vs. Sami Zayn & Solo Sikoa
We will continue to provide updates on the situation as they become available.
