AEW Full Gear saw the long-awaited return of The Elite.
Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks debuted a new theme song as they made their huge entrance – the 1977 hit, Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas.
Previously it was reported that Matt and Nick Jackson had attempted to trademark ‘The Wayward Sons.’
Following the events of the AEW All Out media scrum, it was speculated by some that the song was a reference to that time and their eventual comeback.
As per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer, the Young Bucks have quite a history with the classic rock staple.
He explained:
“The Young Bucks have wanted to use the song for a long time as they and their father were big fans of that song and that style of music.
“The thoughts by people that it had to do with the situation of the past two months was something that they were aware of but the decision to use that song preceded that and in actuality has nothing to do with it.
“The Young Bucks actually used that song as their entrance music when they did their own backyard wrestling as teenagers.”
Meltzer also clarified when the theme will be used going forward, saying:
The song “Wayward Son” by Kansas that the Elite used last night will be their trios entrance music. If won’t be used if they are in regular tags or singles matches.”
The Elite failed to capture the AEW Trios Championships in their returning match against Death Triangle.
The match was a highlight of the night, with a number of insane spots.
Kenny Omega looked set for victory as he attempted the One Winged Angel.
Rey Fenix succumbed to temptation and used a hammer, handed to him by PAC, and secured the pinfall.
Death Triangle and The Elite will continue to face off as a ‘best of seven’ series of matches was announced.
The second match in the series will take place during AEW Dynamite on November 23.
Meltzer clarified that the title will not be on the line for each match.
Death Triangle will remain champions “…until, or unless The Young Bucks & Kenny Omega win a fourth match from them.”
The insanity of this match is indescribable!#DEATHTRIANGLE vs #TheElite at #AEWFullGear LIVE on PPV right now!
