Adam Cole arrived at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto for his AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door but his match would be scrapped.
Cole was scheduled to face Tom Lawlor at the Sunday June 26 event, however he arrived at the venue with a fever.
The match between the pair had been set up on the June 23, 2023 episode of AEW Rampage.
During the post-show media scrum, AEW owner Tony Khan revealed that Cole may have had the flu.
It would further be stated that Cole was sent away from the building to limit the possibility of others becoming sick.
This meant that his match against Lawlor had to be cancelled with the New Japan star taking part in a dark match against Serpentico instead.
Khan had announced the match cancellation on Twitter, writing:
“Due to illness, @AdamColePro isn’t cleared tonight, therefore the Adam Cole vs @FilthyTomLawlor match is canceled.
“Despite the change, tonight will be an amazing show!
“Thank you to everyone watching #ForbiddenDoor, either here live in Toronto @ScotiabankArena or on ppv tonight!”
