A well-remembered former WWE star has responded to fan online clamoring for him to make a return to the company, 20 years on from his debut.
Zach Gowen, who became well known for being the first and only amputee to compete on WWE TV, made his debut in the company 20 years ago in 2003, competing in high profile feuds with Vince McMahon and Brock Lesnar throughout that year.
Gowen was released from his WWE contract in early 2004, but has remained active ever since on the independent scene, and now also works as a motivational speaker.
Despite not being associated with WWE for two decades, it’s clear Gowen is still fondly remembered by fans, as a Twitter user called for WWE to bring back Gowen to finish his memorable program with Lesnar.
Gowen responded with a clear answer, tweeting:
No thanks!!!!
I’m a sober 40 year old amputee tax paying civilian father of 4 that works as a motivational speaker.
That story is FINISHED
Despite not being keen on a return to WWE, Gowen did thank the company recently in a post celebrating the 20-year anniversary of his brief run, calling it “life changing”.
While Lesnar may not have Gowen to contend with, it seems he most certainly has the ‘American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes in his sights.
After an appearance during the opening segment of Raw in which Lesnar confronted Cody before being driven back in retreat, the two men are a lock for a third match at SummerSlam.
Despite initially being reported to be returning in London for Money in the Bank (July 1) Lesnar never appeared, the reason for which has now potentially been revealed – click this link to find out the reasoning behind WWE’s change of plans.
