The backstage reaction to the main roster in-ring debut of Grayson Waller on Friday’s (July 7) edition of SmackDown has been revealed.
While Waller was drafted to SmackDown in early-May, he hadn’t wrestled on the Blue Brand prior to Friday’s show because he was recovering from an injury.
During a Grayson Waller Effect segment with Edge however, the Rated-R Superstar informed Waller that later that night, the two stars would face off.
Following an impressive performance, Edge picked up the victory, before taking to the mic to tell Waller that he ‘swam’.
Per PWInsider, there were ‘raves’ backstage about Waller’s work in his match against the WWE Hall of Famer.
Waller has previously been touted as a future WWE main eventer by several notable names, including Raw star The Miz and Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels.
At the July 1 Money in the Bank premium live event, Waller got physical with another WWE legend, with the rising star confronting John Cena following his surprise return.
Even prior to Waller’s match against Edge, there had been a lot of positive reception over Waller’s recent work, per Fightful Select.
WRKD Wrestling has reported that many within the creative team believe that Waller has the in-ring and mic skills to become a major player in WWE.
