Ahead of a potential showdown at SummerSlam 2023 the Ring General GUNTHER has shared his thoughts on the recently returning Drew McIntyre.
While GUNTHER draws closer to breaking the Honky Tonk Man’s all-time Intercontinental Title record, the Scottish Warrior represents perhaps his steepest task yet on the road to the record.
This is something that GUNTHER himself acknowledges, as in a recent interview with Metro, the Austrian hailed McIntyre’s accomplishments in WWE and his in-ring ability, while also lamenting his lack of focus the last time the two faced at WrestleMania 39 in a three-way involving Sheamus.
GUNTHER said:
“Well I think Drew, if you look at this career, it’s very impressive. I think he’s the most successful European wrestler.
“When it comes to decoration, he’s been WWE Champion, beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania (36).
“Sadly, nobody was there to see it. It felt like at WrestleMania (this year), him and Sheamus got hung up with their personal issues, rather than focusing on the big one.
“He wanted to regain his WrestleMania moment there, failed, and now he’s back and it’s on the chase again. I think Drew is a fantastic wrestler… I think the direction’s obvious where we’re going.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge. It’s one of the biggest I have had so far, since I’m with WWE and since I’m the Intercontinental Champion.”
As likely as it seems to be happening, the IC title match has not yet been made official for August 5.
With McIntyre expected to return to TV on Monday’s edition of Raw (July 24), many are expecting WWE to officially announce GUNTHER vs Drew McIntyre for SummerSlam 2023.
As mentioned, McIntyre missed last week’s Raw from Atlanta, GA (July 17) due to an upcoming major acting opportunity alongside WWE legend Dave Bautista, to find out more click here.
