A top WWE star has admitted that they were happy that a rather scary unplanned moment happened during a recent major match earlier this year.
In an interview on The Michael Kay Show, Charlotte Flair recalled a moment during her excellent SmackDown Women’s Title match with Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 39 which saw her take a German suplex and unfortunately land directly on her face.
This was a cause for concern at the time and cause Flair to sport a nasty graze on her nose following the spot.
As initially worrying as it was however, Flair believes that it ultimately served to make the match even better than it already was.
Flair explained:
“Rhea and I, this past WrestleMania, had a move in there where for a second I was like, there’s my face in the mat, ow, that wasn’t supposed to happen.
“I was like, ‘God I hope she doesn’t move, let me collect my breath for a second’, and if you go back, it was one of the best moments of the match, the suplex to my face when it wasn’t supposed to be that.
“Had that not happened, we would not have got those replays, so to me, I’m so happy I landed flat on my face. It made the match that much better.”
Since dethroning The Queen on WrestleMania 39 Night One, Ripley has gone on to dominate the women’s division on Raw as Women’s World Champion.
However, at WWE’s upcoming Payback Premium Live Event on September 2, the Eradicator perhaps faces her toughest test since Flair, facing off against Raquel Rodriguez after the match was made official on this weeks Raw (August 21).
