A change of plans to John Cena’s appearance on the September 1 SmackDown show have been revealed.
Cena returned to the show in Hershey, Pennsylvania to begin his latest run with the company, where he made his way to the ring to open the show to cut a promo.
During his promo, Cena was interrupted by Jimmy Uso, who WWE had announced would be speaking on the show in a segment originally planned for the August 25 episode, which was scrapped due to the passing of Bray Wyatt.
Cena and Uso took part in a war of words, which was always the intended segment, but one slight change did occur.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), the original plan for the segment would have seen Jimmy Uso open up SmackDown, with Cena instead interrupting him, rather than the other way around.
Cena made an appearance on last night’s Payback premium live event, where he served as the special referee for the match between The Miz and LA Knight.
Cena raised Knight’s hand after the match as a show of respect to the popular star.
Jey Uso also made his return on the show, when Cody Rhodes announced that he had been signed as the newest member of the Raw roster after he ‘quit’ WWE.
