John Cena has provided a big update on his WWE future, confirming that his WWE run would end with a SAG-AFTRA strike settlement.
Numerous Hollywood projects were put on ice when the SAG-AFTRA actors union strike began on July 14.
Since then, actors have been campaigning for fairer contracts, with SAG-AFTRA members unable to work for major Hollywood studios until the union and the studios come to an agreement.
During his time away from sets, Cena returned to WWE, and has been appearing for the company every week since early-September.
Speaking at the post-Fastlane press conference, Cena stated that the SAG-AFTRA strike ending would force him to end his current run with WWE.
Explaining his current situation, Cena said:
“I’ve made it perfectly clear you can’t do both because of the liability insurance. And if I were to try and juggle both, that would be incredibly selfish because I’d put a lot of people in the movie business out of work if something happened to me.
“I stopped a project in the middle of it (because of the strike), I can’t even talk about the project because of the strike we’re in, but we’re in the middle of it.
“So as soon as we get back to work, I’ll get back to work. But I don’t control any of that. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping we can find a resolve that everybody’s happy with.
“For right now, this is the best way I feel I can help is to come back home to my (WWE) family.”
It is currently unclear how much longer the strike will last for. The WGA writer’s union strike ended lasted for 148 days, starting on May 2 and ending on September 27.
As of writing, the SAG-AFTRA strike has lasted for 86 days.
At Fastlane, Cena teamed with LA Knight to defeat Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa. This result saw a five-year WWE streak end, which you can read more about right here.
