What The WGA Tentative Agreement Means For John Cena & The Rock In WWE WWE

A huge update has emerged on the Hollywood strikes, and what it means for the likes of John Cena and The Rock following their WWE returns.

On Sunday (September 24), the Writer’s Guild of America announced that it has reached a tentative deal with the top entertainment companies (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers), after 146 days on strike.

The WGA shared the following statement on the tentative agreement:

The WGA and AMPTP have reached a tentative agreement.

This was made possible by the enduring solidarity of WGA members and extraordinary support of our union siblings who stood with us for over 146 days.

More details coming after contract language is finalized. #WGAStrike

Both John Cena and The Rock have made WWE appearances during the Hollywood strikes, with WGA writers and SAG actors unable to work on projects for the top entertainment companies.

It had been heavily speculated that The Rock would do more work with WWE and potentially step back into the ring if the strikes continued through to WrestleMania 40 in April.

So, does the tentative WGA deal mean that Cena, The Rock and Batista can all resume their acting projects?

No, they must still remain on strike, as the Screen Actors Guild, a separate union to the Writer’s Guild, has not secured a new deal for itself.

Only then will the SAG-AFTRA strike end, and filming resume.

If the above names were working on projects as WGA writers, they will be able to resume writing work after the WGA’s new deal is finalised, but actors remain on strike for now.

As of writing, both the WGA’s board and members need to vote on the deal, before it can be put in place and Hollywood writing work resuming.

So in short, while Hollywood writers will likely be able to work soon, Hollywood actors are still on the picket lines campaigning for a fairer contract.

Scrapped plans for John Cena on last week’s edition of SmackDown have now been revealed, which you can read more about right here.
