There may have been a change made to the WWE commentary team based on a debut that took place earlier this week.
Ever since the last WWE commentary refresh, which saw Wade Barrett and Michael Cole move from SmackDown to Raw, Barrett has called WWE Main Event alongside Byron Saxton.
Main Event is of course taped each Monday night before Raw goes on the air.
This week though, Barrett was joined by a new face, that being Blake Howard.
Howard has been the weekly lead commentator for NXT Level Up since February, calling that show alongside Saxton.
Commenting about his first ever time calling Main Event, Howard wrote on Instagram:
“Simply put, the greatest night of my career thus far. Check out Main Event, airing this Thursday on Hulu, as I call the action with the Wade Barrett. Thank you Greenville for a night I will absolutely NEVER forget!!! @wwe #mainevent #wwe #nxt”
It’s unclear right now if this is a full-time move, but we will of course keep you posted.
The matches that took place on Main Event this week were Kayden Carter vs Blair Davenport, and Akira Tozawa vs Wes Lee.
WWE has recently picked back up on having NXT talents working Main Event matches, hence the inclusion of Davenport and Lee, so it isn’t indicative of an imminent main roster call-up for either of them.
