An update has emerged on the injury status of CM Punk, following the popular star’s appearance on Monday’s (January 29) edition of Raw.
Punk confirmed on Raw that he suffered a torn tricep in the Royal Rumble match, noting that he’ll now miss WrestleMania 40.
He was then confronted by Drew McIntyre, who attacked his injured arm before Sami Zayn made the save.
Per Dave Meltzer in Friday’s Wrestling Observer Daily Update, CM Punk underwent surgery to repair his torn tricep on Thursday, February 1.
Punk’s timeframe for a return is currently unclear.
CM Punk made it to the final two of the Royal Rumble, with Cody Rhodes ultimately winning the bout.
With Rhodes noting on numerous occasions that he intends to finish his story by winning the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship, many fans were expecting him to choose Roman Reigns as his WrestleMania 40 opponent.
In a move that surprised many, Rhodes appeared on Friday’s (February 2) episode of SmackDown to tell Reigns that he won’t be challenging for the title at WrestleMania, before The Rock made his entrance.
The show ended with The Rock and Roman Reigns having a stare down.

Punk was originally planned to face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania, a spot that will seemingly now be occupied by Rhodes.
