A backstage update has emerged on WWE’s plans for Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, following his confrontation with The Rock.
There had previously been a lot of speculation about Reigns’ opponent for April’s event, with both Cody Rhodes and The Rock teasing matches against the Tribal Chief.
While Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble, the American Nightmare announced on the February 3 edition of SmackDown that he won’t be challenging for Reigns’ gold at WrestleMania 40.
The Rock then made his entrance and had a stare down with Reigns before the show went off the air, seemingly revealing this year’s WrestleMania main event.
With many fans hopeful that Cody Rhodes would still finish his story, viewers had previously suggested that Roman Reigns could defend his gold on both nights of WrestleMania 40, so both Rhodes and The Rock get their matches.
Per Wade Keller of PWTorch, there was never any serious consideration about Reigns pulling double duty at WrestleMania.
The Rock had previously stated in an interview that he and WWE were “figuring it out” regarding a match against Roman Reigns.
