NXT Champion Trick Williams has reacted to Carmelo Hayes being called up to SmackDown during the WWE Draft.
Hayes was selected by SmackDown during the first round of the draft during Friday’s (April 26) show.
He went on to face Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in his first match as an official SmackDown star.
During a WWE Digital Exclusive interview, Hayes’ former tag partner and rival Trick Williams stated that he’s super excited for Hayes.
Believing that challenging Cody Rhodes to a match was a bold statement, Williams said:
“Yo, I’m super hyped, super excited for Carmelo Hayes. He is a phenomenal talent. As everybody knows, he is him. However, I do think it’s extremely bold to call out Cody Rhodes your first day on the job, but hey, do what the people told you to do, whoop that trick.”
Hayes and Williams were tag-team partners ahead of Hayes attacking Williams following Williams’ NXT Title bout at February’s Vengeance Day event.
The duo faced off in the main event of Stand & Deliver, NXT’s biggest show of the year, with Williams ultimately victorious. Williams also beat Hayes in a cage match on the April 16 NXT episode.
Williams went on to win the NXT Championship from Ilja Dragunov on the April 23 Spring Breakin’ edition of NXT.
