10 WWE Royal Rumble Title Matches You Have To Watch

2. Triple H vs. Cactus Jack – 2000

Every year, the Royal Rumble event features many surprises. That being said, I’m not sure any match in Royal Rumble history was as jaw-dropping as this WWF Championship encounter.

Neither Cactus Jack nor Triple H were strangers to the most violent of match stipulations. This shows in their Royal Rumble 2000 Street Fight, where both men dissect each other with barbed wire, chairs, tables and thumbtacks.

Cactus Jack targeted Triple H, quickly introducing a variety of weapons into the bout. ‘The Game’, wanting to get rid of Foley’s persona for good, was also not satisfied with victory alone.

While the whole rivalry is remembered fondly, this Street Fight encapsulates the entire feud between Triple H and Mrs Foley’s Baby Boy. A visceral experience from bell to bell, this one isn’t for the faint-hearted.

1. Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena vs. Seth Rollins – 2015

After receiving a mauling at the hands of Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2014, John Cena fought hard to earn this WWE Championship rematch. Meanwhile, Seth Rollins was added to this bout by the Authority, who hoped this would be a shortcut to Rollins’ destiny.

How each competitor earned their place in this match mirrored their performance in this exhilarating three-way. Lesnar dominated his opponents, kicking out of finishers at one, before hitting his own.

Cena fought fearlessly, attempting to rectify his embarrassing loss from the previous summer. Rollins watched from the side-lines, hoping to take advantage of his fatigued competitors.

With all three men fighting with completely different tactics, it was impossible to predict what was coming next. One moment, Lesnar would be demonstrating an insane feat of strength, the next, Rollins was hitting the Phoenix Splash for the first time in years.

This match was also a catalyst for several changes in WWE. Not only did the aftermath see Cena move down the card, but Rollins proved he could thrive in the main event picture, ahead of his WrestleMania 31 Money in the Bank cash-in.

An entertaining clash that changed WWE forever, there isn’t a title match that’s more “Royal Rumble” than this one.
