5 Must-Watch Mustafa Ali Matches in WWE

2. Mustafa Ali vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Kevin Owens – Fastlane 2019

Mustafa Ali’s untimely injury ahead of Elimination Chamber 2019 is often pointed at as one of the crucial missteps during his run.

When fans talk about Ali not getting the WWE Championship Match at WrestleMania 35, they tend to forget that he got a title shot the month prior.

At Fastlane 2019, WWE Champion Daniel Bryan was scheduled to defend his title against Kevin Owens. However, Vince McMahon added Ali to the proceedings.

This proved to be a showstealer and allowed all three men to shine in a major way.

Despite a hostile crowd who wanted Kofi Kingston in this match, the three men turned them around and fully supported this bout down the closing stretch.

Mustafa Ali put on a valiant babyface effort. He fought from underneath and wouldn’t stay down after a lot of punishment.

Bryan finally finished Ali off with the running knee to retain the WWE Championship. For Ali’s only WWE Title opportunity, he made sure to give us all a gem.

1. Mustafa Ali vs. Buddy Murphy – 205 Live ( July 3, 2018)

It’s the match often mentioned when fans want to point out the brilliance of Mustafa Ali.

2018 saw Ali go from just one of the Cruiserweights to “The Heart of 205 Live”. His performance during the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament made him a mainstay on the show, but his feud with Buddy Murphy took things to the next level.

The two men went against each other in a series of competitive bouts, but their rivalry met its apex on the July 3, 2018 episode of 205 Live.

They met in a No Disqualification Match that captured both star’s characters perfectly with the work they put in.

Murphy is a blood thirsty villain who was willing to end Ali’s career to win and get back to the Cruiserweight Title, while Ali is a determined and gutsy hero who would withstand any punishment to overcome his rival.

The two competitors used the stipulation extremely well. It was violent and breathtaking with the lengths taken by these men.

The finish had the fans on the edge of their seat. Buddy Murphy connected with multiple V-Triggers, but Ali wouldn’t quit.

He eventually battled back and hit a tornado DDT off the steel steps to defeat Murphy.

This was a fantastic main event that elevated both talents. Ali and Murphy already proved to have excellent chemistry heading into this match and took it up a level to craft a must-see encounter.

Ali vs. Murphy No Disqualification Match may not only be the best Mustafa Ali match in WWE, but also the greatest 205 Live match of all time.
