AEW Plans For Adam Cole Return

Sidelined indefinitely in July of last year, Adam Cole hasn’t been seen in an AEW ring since, but hopes remain of a return.

It was at All In: Texas on July 12, 2025, that Adam Cole was forced to vacate the TNT Championship, leading to the scrapping of a match with Kyle Fletcher. Cole indicated that he was vacating the title due to injury, stating he didn’t know if a return to action would be in his future.

With Tony Khan sharing a hope, following the announcement, that Cole would return to the ring at some point in the future, the star is still absent over a year later.

Cole would be returning to an AEW that now sees Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly as members of The Conglomeration, with the trio being members of The Paragon, having parted ways with The Undisputed Kingdom in April of last year.

Regardless of when a return could happen, there’s clearly still a role for Adam Cole in AEW.

Continue The Paragon Era

Formed in April 2025, The Paragon continued a tradition for Cole, Strong and O’Reilly that shouldn’t fall into the history books. Whether familiar to WWE fans as The Undisputed Era or to AEW fans in one of their most recent configurations, the trio have certainly gone down in history as standout stars, something that could very much continue upon Cole’s return.

With Cole having suggested that a return to action may not occur, there’s a role for Adam Cole in a managerial capacity.

For many years, Cole has demonstrated his confidence and charisma on the microphone and it would be a disservice to the star if AEW was not to capitalize on those very skills.

It wouldn’t even need to be a case of reuniting him with any of his former teammates. Very much like Don Callis, having the star ‘lead’ a cohort of up-and-coming names, with a veteran potentially sprinkled in, would give the members of chance to shine, while Cole does something that he can do flawlessly.

Producer/Agent/Creative

There’s little argument that Adam Cole has a solid mind for the business, not just from an in-ring capacity, but also when it comes to the creative aspects of his role. A transition to a backstage capacity would be a good use for the star, allowing him develop aspects of what’s seen on AEW Dynamite or Collision. Then, there’s his history with ROH, which could also be a landing point for the star.

Commentary Partner

Returning to the backstage and managerial role, another way to use the charisma and confidence of Cole would be to bring him into the commentary team.

Jim Ross has previously hinted that a departure from AEW could be in his future. Cole may not be the veteran voice that Ross continues to be, but he could be a valuable addition to the commentary team in the same way that Nigel McGuinness and Bryan Danielson have proven to be as in-ring talent.

Time Will Tell

There’s been little indication as to when or if Adam Cole will be making a return in any capacity to AEW and it would be a shame if the last time that fans saw him was while vacating the TNT Championship at All In: Texas.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez stated that Cole intended to announce his retirement, going on to reveal that “cooler heads prevailed”. Over a year on, Cole is still very much absent, but time will tell if a return, in any capacity, is to take place.
