7 Opponents For Cody Rhodes If The Rock Headlines WWE WrestleMania 40 WWE

Oh Dwayne… How could you?

Just as Cody Rhodes’ never-ending story seemed set to finally reach a definitive and satisfying end at WrestleMania 40, The Rock only had to go and set up the biggest match in WWE history against his cousin Roman Reigns.

Now, I’m writing this two weeks away from the Royal Rumble, so the WrestleMania playing field is currently still wide open. If Cody wins his second-straight Rumble then all our doubts will be for nothing and Reigns vs Rock will happen another time.

However, if recent reports are to be believed, Reigns vs Rock will not take place at the Elimination Chamber; leaving ‘Mania the only logical destination. Why else would WWE allow Rock to tease it if that wasn’t gonna be the case?

While we’ll have to just sit back and wait for further clarification at the Rumble, let’s at least mentally prepare ourselves for some non-story finishing by instead suggesting 7 different potential opponents for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40; starting with…

7. Solo Sikoa

I mean it would be incredibly anti-climatic, BUT there is one way to keep Cody’s story with The Bloodline tiding over for one more year… A chance at revenge against the man that caused his original loss to Reigns: Solo Sikoa.

Sikoa’s intrusion into the WrestleMania 39 main event was about as lazy a Bloodline finish as you’ll see, twisting the knife in what was already perhaps the most gut-wrenching loss in recent memory.

Gripes aside however, it does present a logical path for Rhodes if his actual target is busy fending off his Hollywood cousin.

The motivation is already there and Sikoa is on a bit of a killer streak in his own right; putting John Cena away for the foreseeable future, so it does have the potential to be a marquee match on either night of the Mania card.

However, it places near the bottom because it would probably sting just a little too much and (no disrespect to Solo) would quite obviously feel like a massive downgrade for the American Nightmare.
