Every G1 Climax 30 Participant RANKED

2. Will Ospreay (6-3-0)

Best Match: Shingo Takagi – Day 5

Worst Match: Yujiro Takahashi – Day 1

Milano Collection A.T. called Will Ospreay the greatest wrestler of all time during this tournament, in case you needed to be reminded of the Aerial Assassin’s tremendous talent. His tournament was, again, outstanding. Pushed much harder than last year, Ospreay would have won the A-Block had Ibushi lost on the final night.

Ospreay’s talent is virtually unmatched in all of wrestling. Now that he is getting older and more experienced, he is able to get more out of his matches with less stunts and less impact on his body. With a heel turn during his final match with Kazuchika Okada, things are looking very good for Ospreay to breakout as New Japan’s next top foreigner. But in this tournament, there was only one better.

1. Tomohiro Ishii (4-5-0)

Best Match: Jeff Cobb – Day 13

Worst Match: Yujiro Takahashi – Day 11

Tomohiro Ishii has been the most consistently great wrestler in New Japan for years. Just when you think he might take a step back and slow down, he steps on the gas. Truly a master at the art of selling and making everyone in a match look strong, Ishii was the MVP of the G1 Climax.

If you want to list his best matches it would simply be every match he had. Whether it be Jeff Cobb, Shingo Takagi, Minoru Suzuki, or whoever, you could rest assured Ishii’s matches would be stiff as a horse and twice as good.

One of these years Ishii might be able to finally capture the IWGP Heavyweight Championship but until then his accolade will be being the best of the best in pro wrestling. My hat is off and my glass is raised to you, Ishii.
