Ahead of WWE WrestleMania 41 in 2025, Kevin Owens revealed that he had suffered a serious neck injury that required surgery.

Owens has been on the shelf for well over a year now, but fans remain hopeful that we could see him back on WWE TV in the near future.

Being one of WWE’s top stars, KO will have some intriguing storyline directions that he could go in upon making a miraculous comeback from career-threatening neck surgery.

Here are six potential Kevin Owens WWE return plans.

6. Resuming Rivalry With Randy Orton

Kevin Owens announced that he would need to get neck surgery, and therefore pull out of his WrestleMania 41 match with Randy Orton, during the April 4, 2025 episode of SmackDown

At WWE WrestleMania 41, Kevin Owens was scheduled to face Randy Orton in a grudge match.

In the months prior, Owens had turned on Orton and attacked, even piledriving him to put “The Legend Killer” on the shelf for months.

With all this animosity and history, it would be logical to close this feud when Owens makes his comeback to WWE.

KO resuming his rivalry with Orton could conclude their issues and give fans the match they were promised at Mania a year ago.

5. Turn Babyface

Before suffering his neck injury, Kevin Owens was one of the most notorious heels on the WWE roster.

With over a year on the sidelines, KO would no doubt receive a positive reaction from the fans when he first returns.

Owens turning babyface upon his return feels likely if the company realizes how beloved “The Prizefighter” always is.

Whether it be endearing himself on the microphone or saving one of his former friends, a babyface turn seems like the way to go for Kevin Owens when he is ready to make his return to WWE.

4. Finally Face Off With CM Punk

Back in 2023, CM Punk made his return to WWE for the first time in nearly a decade.

During his first couple of appearances, Punk teased matches with several different stars, including Kevin Owens.

Behind the scenes, Owens has long had some lingering issues with Punk from their time on the independent scene.

Taking this real life experience between the two men, Owens feuding with Punk upon his return would make for a deeply compelling rivalry that could be one of the best from WWE in a long time.

3. Join Forces With LA Knight To Destroy The Bloodline

Over the past few weeks, LA Knight has been the loudest critic of The Bloodline, citing their history and signs of the family embracing their old ways.

Knight has made it clear that his sights are set on Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship and wanting to take down The Bloodline once and for all.

This is something that Kevin Owens was always known for, being one of the biggest victims of the group.

Upon his WWE return, Owens joining forces with Knight would make for a formidable pairing to place against The Bloodline moving forward.

2. Becoming General Manager

Aside from a brief appearance in the crowd for John Cena’s last match in December, Kevin Owens has not appeared on WWE TV since announcing his neck injury in April 2025

Due to the severity of his neck injury and surgery, it would not be surprising if Kevin Owens needs more time to recover.

However, it seems like Owens may be ready to do some traveling and get moving with the company once again.

Owens is one of the company’s best talkers and characters, which would make for a great non-wrestling role.

KO coming in as the General Manager of Raw or SmackDown would be extremely intriguing to see how he interacts with the stars on the roster and how charismatic he can be in a new position.

1. Reunion With Sami Zayn

Over the past few months, Sami Zayn has seemingly been going closer and closer to the deep end following his failures to not win a world title in his career.

This has led to Sami’s recent falling out with Cody Rhodes and inserting himself in the Undisputed WWE Championship picture.

Zayn and Kevin Owens are long time best friends and bitter enemies who have feuded off-and-on for years.

Considering the new character and edge to his former friend, Owens could return and reunite with Zayn to enhance both of their personas and further progress their years-long story.
