Ten Biggest Takeaways From WWE 24: Edge

3. Edge Thinks the Internet has Taken Surprises Away

Edge’s return was speculated about since he speared Elias at SummerSlam 2019. He hadn’t done anything physical in WWE since retiring and the change was noticed. He wanted to ensure his return be kept as secret as possible because he feels that the internet has taken away the surprise factor in wrestling.

Daniel Bryan, John Cena, and John Morrison’s returns were all used as examples of surprise moments being spoiled for the fear of news getting out. Edge said he wanted his return to be that surprise moment, which is why he denied reports of his impending return.

2. Dash Wilder Was Edge’s Training Partner

While Dash Wilder’s WWE status is currently up in the air, he was able to spend a good amount of time getting Edge prepared for his return to the ring. The first portion of Edge’s preparation saw him training with Beth Phoenix using their personal ring in North Carolina. Eventually, he needed someone more his size.

Enter Dash Wilder. They discussed Edge’s relationship with Wilder as they continued to get the Rated R Superstar up to speed. Wilder had been working as a trainer at Gold’s Gym in North Carolina when he met Edge years ago. Upon learning Wilder was a wrestler, they struck up a friendship that continues to last.

1. Edge Pitched Dash Wilder to WWE in 2011

Continuing from the last entry, it was also revealed that during Edge’s Appreciation Night in September 2011, Edge pitched Dash Wilder to the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis. He made a point to say he does not go to bat for people who he does not think can perform.

This is a hell of a stamp of approval for Wilder who signed with WWE a couple years later. Edge had brought a DVD of Wilder’s work with him to a show dedicated entirely for him and if that does not show how selfless he is, I don’t know what will.
