Top 3 In WWE: Episode Two

1. 205 Live Tornado Tag Team Match
Lucha House Party (Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik) vs. Akira Tozawa and Hideo Itami

It’s hard to argue that 205 Live isn’t the best pure wrestling show WWE produces at the moment. In terms of in-ring action, I’d even put it above NXT (not counting TakeOver‘s of course). It is simply a true showcase of wrestling talent and I find myself in awe each and every week.

What’s even better is that when these two teams began feuding, I barely cared. But after the past few weeks and especially after this match, it has quickly become one of my most anticipated segments. I never knew I wanted to see the great Hideo Itami shuffled away on the purple brand, even more so in a tag team with fellow countryman Akira Tozawa, but if he is going to be putting on bouts of this quality and given so much time every single week, I say more power to him.

What’s more is that I am now incredibly excited to see the introduction of the all-but-confirmed Cruiserweight Tag Team Championships. If these two teams are going to be trading blows for the foreseeable future, I’ll be more than happy to watch. Throw in the pairing of Jack Gallagher and The Brian Kendrick as well as any other ragtag groups they want to throw together – because let’s face it, at the moment, all the random groups are looking great – and it will be a very solid tag team division down on 205 Live indeed.

Back to the actual match, however, what can I say other than it was incredible. I mean I will say more because it’s my job but it was truly just great. We rarely see tornado tag team stipulations these days so it was remarkably refreshing to see a less well-trodden in-ring dynamic.

Watching the high-flying luchador style face off against the hard-hitting, fierce-striking strong style of Japan will never get old. Seeing Itami and Tozawa tie up their opponents in quick and creative submissions was great and having the Lucha House Party busting out synchronized springboard Moonsaults to the outside was just a spectacle, pure and simple. Tozawa’s paused knockout jab dropping Lince Dorado will also always make me smile.

When matches are this good, it doesn’t matter who wins. Everyone had not just their time to shine but shone throughout without ever letting off the gas. A special shout out to Lince Dorado selling the four-man powerbomb/suplex. He’s great and the eye of his mask breaking only added to it.

All in all, 205 Live continues to deliver and I can’t wait to see which of the purple brand’s boys will top this list next week because honestly, it’s almost a certainty at this point.
