Top 3 In WWE: Episode Two

2. NXT No-Disqualification Singles Match
Killian Dain vs. Lars Sullivan

How could you not like this match? Big men beating the life out of each other, utter carnage with chairs and tables, Killian Dain looking like he had his nose broken from a flying headbutt and getting bloody for the rest of the bout, and most importantly, they couldn’t have a screwy DQ or count-out finish! Magic.

These two behemoths have such compelling in-ring styles and are both so unique. Dain’s opening headbutt sent shivers down my spine, his wind-up war cry before each big strike sounds great and he’s just so agile for his size. Sullivan is no slouch either and his gorilla-like movements where he stumbles around the ring, flailing his arms, are just genius nuances that have really defined his presence for me.

It’s also so nice to see the ‘No Disqualification’ match type used logically again. Well done NXT. For context, these two had a standard bout on the go-home episode before NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, which was interrupted by the rest of the other four competitors in the NXT North American Championship six-man ladder match. There is some rage between the two giants and nothing was going to stop them finding the king of the beasts this time.

Dain knows exactly how to ‘work’ a crowd into a “We want tables!” frenzy as well. He did it at NXT TakeOver: WarGames and he did it this week. The spot itself looked great and really added to the war these two were having. It’s great watching the ‘Beast of Belfast’ just launch chairs at Sullivan as well. There’s no need to pull some pantomime ‘slamming the floor next to your opponent’ nonsense when they’re going to straight up take it full force.

The finish also did well to protect both men as it’s an unwritten rule in the world of professional wrestling that if weapons are involved, eating the pin doesn’t really count now does it.
