There’s something of a side show developing with the 2024 WWE King & Queen of the Ring tournaments.
That side show is the fact that three stars have now been pulled from the tournament lineups despite being announced as part of the bracket reveals.
Here are those three names, as well as the apparent reasons for their removals.
3. Drew McIntyre
Drew McIntyre was the first-announced removed name from the King of the Ring, being replaced by Jey Uso who went on to beat Finn Balor on Raw in the first round, with an angry McIntyre at ringside.
It’s been known for a while that McIntyre has been working hurt, and he was always expected to take some time away from the ring after WWE’s UK tour while remaining on TV.
Based on that, it at least appears it was always the plan to remove McIntyre from the tournament for storyline reasons, as it adds another edge to him being mad at the world, and in particular, CM Punk.
So while McIntyre is legitimately injured and that’s why he’s not wrestling, it seems like WWE had this plan ahead of time, and this was always how it was going to work out – as far as we know, it’s not a change they had to actively make on the fly.
